■■ Natural ways to tell time meets man-made precision. Before the invention of the mechanical clock, people could tell time using the moon, soil layers, and the rings in a tree. Nooka reinvents the watch. Intuitive by design. Beautiful by nature.

		<description>&#62;&#62; Vans OTW Collection
++ http://www.vans.com/microsites/otw/
++ Client: Vans Inc.
++ Copywriter: Andrew Danger
■■ Descriptions for the materials used in the Vans premium OTW Collection as well as short descriptions about the collection's advocates.

OTW 2012 PREMIUM MATERIALS

Full-Grain Leather
This premium leather has not been sanded, buffed, or processed in any way. It is the most natural looking and the highest grade of leather with the fewest imperfections. Full-grain leather also develops a patina, weathered luster, over time that is desired by many leather enthusiasts. It is a highly durable and breathable material for shoes.

Veggie Tan Leather
Full-grain leather organically tanned using Tannin, a natural compound that grows on trees and plants to protect against fire, insects, and bacteria. Veggie tanned leather has greater body and firmness, which adds to it’s durability.

Nubuck
A velvet like top grain leather that has been brushed/sanded to give it a soft feel.

Suede
A type of leather that has been buffed and brushed to give it a raised finish with a distinctive fuzzy look and feel. The type of leather chosen and the treatment used makes suede much softer than full-grain leather.

Pigskin
A softer and thinner alternative to cowhide, pigskin is used where lightweight durability, breathability, and flexibility is required.

Premium Textiles
We choose only the finest textiles for the OTW Collection. Whether its waxed, washed, woven, or otherwise, we make sure it carries our banner for quality.

Lace Details
Through the pursuit of pushing our design details and colorways to the limits, we make laces that both looks good and stays on your shoes.

Laser Details
Precision lasers are used to permanently etch graphics down to the finest details.

OTW 2012 ADVOCATES

Dimitri Coste
French artist, photographer, and filmmaker Dimitri Coste is as passionate about his craft as he is about his subjects. His body of work is an extension of himself, focusing on his admiration of motorcycles, music and fashion. In his personal photography work, Coste has focused on the American mythology of heroes past, as is displayed with his “Elvis” series. Recently, he shot portraits of Mustang gearhead and automotive icon Carroll Shelby of Shelby Motors fame. At home, Coste owns one of the most comprehensive collections of Vans shoes and memorabilia in the world.

Lupe Fiasco
Growing up with a wide range of musical influences ranging from Benny “The King of Swing” Goodman to hip hop legends such as Nas, Lupe Fiasco’s love of music got him producing his own songs in his father’s basement at an early age. His rap career started as a member of Da Pak. After the group broke up Fiasco forged on as a solo artist, receiving his first major break with Atlantic Records with the help of fellow rapper Jay-Z. His debut album “Food &#38; Liquor” received three Grammy nominations. His follow-up album “The Cool”, with the hit single “Superstar”, peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the latest album “Lasers” debuted as the number one album on the US Billboard 200. Fiasco has cemented himself as an international superstar.

Eric Elms
In an age where digital media dominates the world of art, illustrator, typographer, and artist, Eric Elms is part of a rare breed of artists who can still makes their work by hand. Elm runs his studio “Adorn” in Brooklyn which specializes in print design and publishing. His bold style of cohesively mixing graphics and wordplay with multiple media has earned him a list of high ranking clients ranging from Arktip Magazine to Supreme to Wieden+Kennedy.

Chris Kong
Hong Kong based sculptor Chris Kong is the founder and owner of Garageworks Industries, one of the top vinyl toy production houses in the Japanese, US, and European market. After applying his art director skills to many successful companies, Kong’s graphic illustration and industrial design ingenuity is paying off at GWI where he’s crafting designer toys, furniture, skateboards, and apparel. His designs have been sought after by heavyweight national brands including Vans, Disney, and Bandai. Kong’s creative style has also grabbed the attention of fellow artists such as Ron English, Jim Philips, and Johnny Ace. He has even crafted custom sculptures for them under his sub-label “Made by Monsters”.
